Charity: Ellu Gives Back
As there are numerous ways in which we can help those in need, we might ask ourselves "What can I do and where do I start?" Looking over photos of my travels throughout Peru I was inspired to use my creativity to help the native Peruvians inflicted with poverty.
Though rich in beauty and spirit, Peru's poverty rate is high, especially in rural areas, as is the mortality rate among children. Hearing statistics is one thing but seeing is another as my tour group visited and helped a small village outside of Cusco.
My ellu.5 collection is comprised of original ellu bags in limited editions of 5, released monthly, where 50% of the proceeds from each bag sold will go directly to help the most poverty stricken children and families of Peru. The money will be donated to Spirits of the Earth. Owner and tour guide Vera Lopez will use these contributions to purchase food, medicine, clothing, school supplies, etc. for these native people.
A wonderful and vibrant woman, Vera guides tour groups to Peru four times a year. Each tour travels to regions in dire need, while bringing its people necessities coupled with compassion. Vera periodically will be sending images depicting how these collaborative efforts from the purchase of the ellu.5 collection are being used. These photos will be featured in future newsletters at ellubags.com.
As ellu means "the shining one", the energy of the number 5 is of making the world a better place and is symbolized as being connected to life. Showing compassion to other's lives, given that we share this planet, is a great way to connect with life and shine in your own way!
